Famous design

Since 1892, Lovikka's unique wool mittens, with their distinctive patterns and braided tassels, have been crafted by the local folklore society. Contact Visit Pajala for your own pair.

In northern Sweden, “näbbskor”, made from reindeer skin, have been worn for centuries. They're both practical and stylish, suitable for everyday wear and special occasions. Sattajärvi village has been producing these shoes with expertise for a century.

Celebrities

Here, one becomes most easily famous by catching the largest salmon or picking the most cloudberries, but we also have other celebrities who have, among other things, kicked some ass in the ski trails or written best-selling books.

83 villages

The municipality of Pajala is large in size and has 83 villages to choose from to live in. Pajala is the main town with approximately 3000 inhabitants, and around it, there are several villages of various sizes with schools, employers, services, and significant local engagement. For those dreaming of living in seclusion, you can certainly find a remote paradise as well.

Our own airport

Fifteen minutes from Pajala, you'll find our airport where you can travel between Pajala and Luleå in just 40 minutes. One departure in the morning and one in the afternoon. The Heart of Lapland destination is blooming, and now a larger international terminal is being built to accommodate the international traffic.

Wild rivers

Five wild rivers flow through the municipality: Torne River, Kalix River, Muonio River, Lainio River, and Tärendö River. Tärendö River is the world's second longest bifurcation, and Torne River is one of the world's best salmon rivers.
